What dog breed is best for me?

First let me say this:  I'm not a veterinarian or a dog breed specialist.  I have however, been walking dogs and pet sitting dogs for over 14 years and I'v learned a few things about how different dog breeds usually behave.  Not all dogs fit into a perfect profile but I have three categories. There are the super friendly and playful dogs, the lazy and quiet dogs, and the needy dogs.  I would love to hear from you all regarding this subject!  Let me explain....

Friendly and Playful Dog Breeds

These are the dogs that greet you at the door with their whole butts wagging.  They actually greet everyone that way but you're extra special.  Golden Retrievers and Labrador Retrievers and all other similar breeds are the most obvious example.  Have you ever met an unhappy Lab - I'm grinning just asking this question!  Ask any of my sitters, they will all tell you the same thing.

Lazy and Quiet Dog Breeds

These are your bull breeds such as English Bulldogs, American Bulldogs, Pit Bulls, Bull Mastiffs, etc.  These dogs love, I mean love, to laze around all day.  Except for eating and going out for a quick #1 and #2, they sleep the entire rest of the day.  These breeds are strong dogs and very muscular.  This is why they are sometimes trained to fight but they are naturally gentle and very friendly, just super lazy.

Needy Dog Breeds

These are usually your small breeds such as Shih Tzus, Poodles, Chihuahuas, etc.  These are the dogs that form very strong bonds with their owners and usually nobody else.  They don't like being along and need loads of attention.  They are usually moody and unpredictable when meeting other people but super affectionate to their immediate human family.  If you're a person that travels infrequently and loves the attention of a loyal partner, these are the breeds for you.
