The Cats

So I have talked a lot about the dogs here at Scooby, but there is also about 100 cats here as well that need homes. Some of them are out in the cat houses including 8 week old kittens that one of the workers hand raised. There are also lots of cats just hanging around the property.

My favorite is Tony, pictured here sitting in a box while I make dog food. Gorda is also very sweet, but Fermin who started Scooby now owns her.

So many of these cats are sweet and social, it is so hard not to want to bring them all home.

The good news about the cats is that Scooby has plenty of cat food.

The Farm Animals

So at Scooby Medina there aren't just cats and dogs, but there are also lots of different farm animals. Those that know me well know I grew up on a farm so I hold pigs, chickens, sheep, goats and the like very close to my heart.

Today we went out to the back part of Scooby to check on and socialize with all the other kind of critters that live here. We walked through gate after gate into field after field of all different animals. At Scooby they have bunnies, doves, raccoons, ducks and geese, some giant pigs, donkeys, goats, sheep and miniature and regular size horses.

I hear there are some bulls as well so I will have to go looking for them tomorrow.

We also checked on the perimeter dogs. These are the dogs that live in double fenced runs all along the perimeter of the property to keep intruders away.

I have heard lots of stories about the gypsies that are around here. They try to steal things from Scooby including puppies. It is all very sad.

So back to the farm animals. So we were out in this huge pasture and all of a sudden the skies opened up and it started pouring. Probably one of the hardest rains I have ever experienced. First we had to huddle under a shelter with the donkeys and horses. Then the rain gave up a little so we started grainy back only to have it start raining again. This time we made some geese very unhappy by intruding into their shelter.

We got soaked but it was worth it to see all these amazing animals.

Jumping In Wherever You Are Needed

So our first full day at Scooby turned out to be an eventful one. Like most shelters there are far more things to do then people to do them, but at Scooby there are so many dogs for such a small facility it seems worse then any shelter I have been too before.

I started the day off pretty normal, cleaning dog pens and filling water buckets, but next thing I knew I was in the clinic helping out while 2 dogs had surgery. Then a little sweeping of the clinic followed by an emergency run for dog food.

Scooby is pretty much at capacity for dogs so having enough food is one of their biggest issues. I personally will be sending food back when I get home, but if you'd like to help with their much needed food issue a monetary donation with an earmark for food would be greatly appreciated. Go to www.scoobymedina.org to learn more about how to donate.

After all the craziness of the day some good old fashioned dog love was what I needed. This is my new friend pictured here. He is a very sweet young lab who actually will be going to a home in Germany . He is one of the lucky ones.
